Accounting Advisor

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Advisor who can work both at the strategic and tactical level with clients and internal staff, and who possesses a strong technical background in full-cycle GAAP accounting and tax preparation. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who loves a challenge, has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and can effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Accounting Advisor will report to the Senior Advisor and work closely with the Accounting team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in full-cycle accounting
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of technical accounting skills (US GAAP)
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, and driven by challenge
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

CORE JOB DUTIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Accounting and Bookkeeping for multiple clients:
  • Manage all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes including but not limited to: A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Understand and be able to work with and explain in detail Job Costing.
  • Prepare financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and financial reports.
  • Administer payroll and manage employee records.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures.


  • Accounting | Bookkeeping | Financial Consulting to multiple clients:
  • Provide consulting services to clients on various aspects of bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Develop and implement efficient bookkeeping systems and processes for clients.
  • Train clients' staff on bookkeeping practices and software.
  • Understanding of Cost Accounting, specifically in the Construction and or Manufacturing industry.


  • Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are in compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Prepare reports as required by management or regulatory agencies.
  • Analyze financial information to assist in making financial decisions.


  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Work closely with other Advisors to fulfil the needs of their projects from an accounting perspective. 
  • Communication using S.M.A.R.T. Communication 
  • Supporting external partners such as CPA, EA and other professionals as it relates to IA Client work.
  • Provide S.M.A.R.T. reports to IA partners on the overall functionality, efficiency and needs of the IA Accounting support team and effort. 
  • Support other IA Accounting Advisors in understanding GAAP and other accounting related issues. 
  • Support the IA Accounting Advisory S.M.A.R.T. Management program to ensure it remains aligned with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT 

  • Office environment in Elgin, IL, potentially with the option for remote work as needed.
  • Standard business hours with additional hours required at peak times such as tax season.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

  • Performance will be evaluated based on accuracy and timeliness of financial reports, effectiveness in tax preparation and filing, quality of consulting services provided, and overall contribution to the finance department's goals.
